Centre for Financial
& Management Studies (CeFiMS) - University of London
PG Diploma in Economic
Principles
Study Support
When you study a CeFiMS
distance learning programme, you will be sent everything you need
to complete the courses: carefully structured course guides written
by expert academics, recently published textbooks, collections of
up-to-date and important scholarly articles on the subject, assignments
with notes on how to tackle them, guidance on examination technique
and, for some courses, video lectures, exercises on audio cassette
and software programmes.
A key strength of the
CeFiMS method is your relationship with the CeFiMS tutor. On each
course you complete regular assignments for the tutor on that course.
Your Centre tutor provides feedback on your assignments, advice on
how to improve them and encouragement for your studies in general.
Our experienced tutors
mark assignments with great care and give detailed helpful comments
on them. Because there is no direct contact, tutors must be especially
diligent to ensure that their comments are positive and helpful, and
that students will not misunderstand them. Comments on assignments
are the main form of personal teaching provided at a distance, and
special care is taken to ensure that it is effective. CeFiMS monitors
all tutors' grading and comments to ensure the high quality of tutors'
care is being maintained.
How you study
Without leaving your job or home you
can study, write and submit assignments, receive expert guidance from
your CeFiMS tutor and advice from the student support team. In addition
to printed study materials, the Online Study Centre
allows students to work with course materials, send queries to tutors
and submit assignments via the Internet.
When you take a CeFiMS distance learning
course you will be sent everything you need to complete your studies.
A typical set of course learning materials would include:
- Core text.
All courses centre on a specially written core text analogous to
a series of lectures.
- Textbooks and collections
of readings. Most courses also include
one or more textbooks and a collection of recent or classic articles
of importance to the subject.
- Study
calendar. Students are provided
with a study calendar for each course which sets out the schedule
for your coursework and assignment deadlines.
- Student handbook.
Contains advice on how to tackle assignments and written examinations.
There is also a 'Study Skills' textbook and an audio CD offering
suggestions on distance learning.
Online Study Centre (OSC)

students to:

printed texts
- submit assignments
- communicate with tutors

for their course.
