Entrance Requirements

Standard Entry Route

Applicants often present a wide range of qualifications but the following general rules apply:

To register for a degree you must be at least 17 years old and satisfy the University's general entrance requirements and any necessary course requirements. There are many other acceptable qualifications, both from the United Kingdom and overseas which the University accepts as satisfying the entrance requirements.

You may be asked to provide proof of competence in English (Tests of proficiency in English) acceptable to the University.

If you do not satisfy the criteria for automatic acceptance, the University will still consider your application on an individual basis or under their Special Admissions procedures.

If the University cannot accept you with your current qualifications and experience, they will advise you what qualifications you could take in order to become eligible in the future

Application for the Graduate Entry Route

Applicants who meet the above criteria and also hold a full bachelors degree completed in a minimum of three years duration on a full-time basis or equivalent, from a university or other institution acceptable to the University of London may apply for entry to the Graduate Entry Route of the degree.

Regrettably applicants holding professional qualifications and / or postgraduate qualifications without a full bachelors degree cannot be considered for admission to the Graduate Entry Route.

Please also note that there are no exemptions for the Graduate Entry Route of the degrees in the fields of Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences.

Exemptions

Although The University use the word 'exemption', other institutions often use the term 'credit transfer'.

An exemption means that you are not required to take a particular unit as part of your degree.

To be eligible you must satisfy the University that you have already passed examinations that compare in level, content and standard to the syllabuses from which you want to be exempted. Some exemptions The University award are automatically granted; all others are considered on a non-automatic basis.

To be considered for exemption you must satisfy our criteria and make an application. Any exemption awarded is only valid for a limited period which will be specified in your decision letter. If you do not attempt an examination during this period, the exemption will expire. If you still want the exemption to count towards your degree you will need to apply again.

You may apply for exemption from up to four Foundation units.

All non-automatic exemptions are considered on payment of a fee, currently £50 per unit / £25 per half unit.

General entrance requirements

In order to satisfy the general entrance requirements for an undergraduate degree, students taking British GCSE/GCE 'O' levels and 'A' levels will need:

Either passes in:
two subjects at GCE ‘A’ Level + at least three further subjects at GCSE or GCE ‘O’ Level (at not less than grade C or a ‘pass’ if taken prior to 1975)
or
three subjects at GCE ‘A’ Level + one further subject at GCSE or GCE ‘O’ Level (at not less than grade C)
or
two subjects at GCE ‘A’ Level + two further subjects at ‘AS’ Level.

There are many other acceptable qualifications, both from the UK and overseas, which the University accepts instead of British 'O' and 'A' Levels.

Notes:

Special admissions

If you do not meet the entrance requirements for the degree of your choice, a Special Admissions Panel may still be able to consider your application.

The Special Admissions Panel considers every aspect of an application including all qualifications, relevant work experience, age and reasons for study. Applications are rarely accepted on the basis of age and/or work experience alone; evidence of mature age study is invariably required. The Panel may decide that you must obtain an additional qualification/s before an offer of registration for the External Programme can be made.

The Special Admissions Panel may consider an application from you if:

you have passed examinations which would give you admission to an acceptable university outside the UK

OR:

you have obtained an appropriate qualification/s other than a degree from an acceptable institution

OR:

you have a professional qualification/s (gained by examination) that admits you to membership of an acceptable professional body

OR:

you are over 21 years of age and are therefore considered to be a mature applicant.

Graduate Entry Route
