Fees

University fees are usually increased in line with inflation each year on 31 August. The fees given below for 2005-6 are applicable from 1st September 2005.

The fees you pay to the University cover the cost of the study materials sent to you (and any further support, depending on the qualification), your examinations, and the University's administration costs.  

The amount you pay depends on the qualification for which you are registering and how long you take to complete it.  

Typically, an undergraduate student would pay between £2,500 and £3,500 in University fees to complete their degree.  

As an External student, your fee payments are spread over your period of registration. Over this period you will need to pay fees of different sorts to the University including an application handling fee, an initial registration fee, continuing registration fee and examination entry fees.  

Applicable to all students. Fees must be paid in pounds sterling, which can be paid either by credit card (recognised by Mastercard International or by the Visa group) OR by banker's draft, cheque or postal order, made payable to 'The University of London' and crossed 'a/c payee'.

Other costs

Besides the fees payable to the University, you should budget for the cost of purchasing textbooks (this may well be in the region of £300 per year); the cost of any course or tuition you may take and the fee levied by your local examination centre to cover their costs.

Financial assistance

Students resident in the UK may be able to obtain a discretionary award to cover registration and examination fees from their local education authority to whom such inquiries should be addressed. Some employers, in both the public and the private sector, are also prepared to provide such funding. Both local education authorities and some other employers do from time to time provide financial assistance towards the cost of attending short courses.

 

Graduate Entry Route
This provides an opportunity for graduates of any discipline to gain an additional undergraduate degree by following a shorter than normal programme, successfully completing nine full units rather than twelve. This can normally be achieved in a minimum of two years with the exception of the BSc Economics, BSc Development & Economics and the BSc Information Systems & Management.
